During the summer of 2004, Preschool Prep Company™ conducted a two-month study demonstrating that children can learn their letters much earlier than traditionally thought. During this period, nine-month to four-year-old children watched Meet the Letters three to five times a week. Over 90% of these children had complete upper and lowercase letter recognition by or before the end of the two months. Many learned their letters in less than two weeks.
Preschool Prep Company conducted this study to show parents that children can easily learn letters while they are learning to talk. "It was so exciting to see a group of children go from no letter knowledge to complete upper and lowercase letter recognition in a very short time," says company founder Kathy Oxley. "I honestly believe that this will change the path to literacy for each of these children." While Meet the Letters was designed to teach letters to babies and toddlers while they are learning to talk, (around 15 months) researchers were surprised at how fast preschool aged children learned letters. Many of the two and three year old children were able to learn letters in two weeks.
