A: **Each child's attention span is different and each parent is different in how much TV viewing they are comfortable with, so we don't have any guidelines. If your child LOVES Meet the Letters and only wants to watch that DVD then let him/her. If your child already knows shapes and colors then skip to the subjects that they don't know. If your child prefers skipping around to different DVDs that will work too. The one thing that I can tell you is that I recommend that you start with the basics (letters, numbers, shapes and colors in any order). Then move to Sight Words and after that Phonics. The DVDs all use the same teaching method so your child will be able to learn any of these subjects. Don't be afraid to show a 15 month old sight words!
The accessories are the same. If your child isn't able to color or hold a pencil yet, but loves books, then only use the flap books and the board books. The DVDs will do ALL of the teaching. You don't need to pull out the other stuff yet, but once your child falls in love with the characters, he/she will want to play with the other items.

A: We agonized over the sounds that the blends made because we know that teachers try to cut any vowel sound off of the end of the blend. We worked with a teacher to get the blend sounds right and we completely cut the vowel sound off of the end of each blend. When we first recorded, we thought that it sounded great, but when we got the masters, we were surprised to hear that when we tried to leave the vowel off of the end, we ended up making a vowel sound between letters - dr sounded like "dir", br sounded like "bir". It is impossible to say the blend without a vowel sound - when you cut it from the end it is forced to the middle. We went back and talked to several teachers and we all agreed that when saying the blend loud enough to be heard, there has to be a vowel sound made either between the two letters, or after the blend. We decided that the lesser of two evils was to put the extra sound after the blend, but then we did a couple of things to help better explain. We re-recorded, and added a scene to the opening explaining that you would hear a vowel sound at the end of the blend because over TV speakers it is too difficult to hear (or say) the blend without that sound. We then tried to help children differentiate the blend from the lagging vowel sound by introducing the blend game where children get to practice saying the blend with each vowel. This will help them see that the blend is a separate sound that will work with any vowel.
