I never tired of being read to before
I went to bed. As a very young child one favorite book began…."A is for
apple, B is for is for ball, C is for cat and also for cow, D is for
dog that says bow wow wow wow"! As I drifted off to sleep I would hum
the traditional ABCsong with its happy ending; "now I
know my ABCs…tell me what you think of me". I could plan on the
sequence and I delighted in the familiarity of the letters.
When we met Kathy Oxley with her wonderful DVDs at the 2007
International JPMA Convention I reflected on how far ABCs have
come! Kathy Oxley's Preschool Prep Series brings letters to life with her award-winning educational tools. In a recent study of babies and toddlers who watched "Meet the Letters"
daily resulted in over 90% of these children having letter recognition
by or before the end of the two-month study. "If we teach young
children letters, a natural curiosity develops and they become excited
about learning more" says Oxley.
I am so pleased to introduce you to her "Meet the Letters" DVD.
Each letter is introduced in upper and lower case form. The letters are
clearly identified by name. The fun continues as each letter cavorts on
the screen changing shape a bit. Suddenly the form of the letter
comes to life. I just love the letter "A" as an astronaut heading into
outer space. "b" is the sweetest little bird; then "B" becomes a bee!
Perhaps my favorite is "F" who is my inspirational fairy princess
mingling with the stars. The traditional ABC tune plays delightfully in the background of this DVD.
There are charming lift the tab board books which correspond to the
alphabet characters on the DVD. This fabulous educational series,
designed to teach toddlers and babies mastery of their letters, colors,
shapes and numbers also includes "Meet the Colors", "Meet the Numbers" and "Meet the Shapes". Now I know my ABCs….tell me what you think of me!
